6/20 Tri for Fun #1: Shadow Cliffs Regional Park, Pleasanton. 400 yd. lake swim, 11 mi. loop road bike, 3.1 mi. trail run. These are short distance triathlons open to all levels of ability. All are welcome to participate. Excellent for novices, great competition for the seasoned triathlete. Pre-reg.: $55. Fee includes t-shirt, refreshments and raffle (must be present to win). 7/5 Graeagle Triathlon: Mill pond, next to Graeagle General Store. .5 mi. warm water lake swim; 15 mi. flat loop bike ride; 5K road run, flat w/mild hills; Super Kidz: 100 yd. swim; 1.5 mi. bike ride; .5 mi. run. 7/18 The Great Race: American River Parkway, Sacramento and Rancho Cordova. Participants run 5.82 mi., cycle 12.5 mi. and paddle boats 6.35 mi. Teams and individuals can compete in a variety of divisions. As with last year, Eppie's Great Race Kids' Duathlon will make an appearance, a 2.5 mi. run and a 6 mi. bike ride. 7/11 June Lake Triathlon: June Lake. 8 a.m. The toughest race in the most beautiful place! Triathlon at 7,600 ft. in a high alpine setting. Sprint and Olympic distance races. Olympic distance: 1.5 km. lake swim; 40 km. road bike ride; 6.3 mi. trail run; Sprint distance: 1/4 mi. lake swim, 8 mi. road bike ride; 2.25 mi. trail run. 7/12 Carlsbad Triathlon: Tamarack Surf Beach. 2,000 meter ocean swim; 15.5 mi. rolling hills bike ride; 3.1 mi. run. The race follows the coastline of Carlsbad, past scenic beaches, lagoons and a wildlife preserve. For more info, go to www.carlsbadtriathlon.com
